It is difficult for young people in our era as they are indoctrinated with the world from grade school onward.

So from a Independent Baptist perspective I will provide basic groundrules and considerations for you to emulate. First and foremost, when you find that right person who seems to fit start out with asking the Lord if this person is okay. Seek the Lord and ask for wisdom he will show you. 1st Corinthians 1:20 Where [is] the wise? where [is] the scribe? where [is] the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Second area for consideration. If you have found your soul mate, or so you think, do not give in to the lusts of the flesh. Both of you should save yourselves for the right person. What do I mean by that? If you are a virgin DON'T have sex. 1st Thessolonians 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;" At the teenage level hormones are raging especially in boys. 1st Corinthians 7:37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well. 1st Corinthians 6: 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. You are destroying your own body in ways you cannot imagine until you lived many years. You reap what you sow.

The battlefield for the most part is in the mind. Galatians 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. Just to let you know what the Lord thinks, Matthew 5:28 "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Keep control of your vessel. (Your Body)

Third, check out the other person's family and associates. When you marry, you are marrying the other person's WHOLE family. The Bible states, Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Date the other person for a couple years, you usually will become more yourself after the initial dates and putting on a good front(face). Finally, after getting to know the other person, the Lord states 2nd Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? Do NOT marry an unsaved person.

Now if you are married to an unsaved person you according to the Bible 1st Corinthians 7:16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save [thy] husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save [thy] wife? If you are dating and have committed fornication and are a saved person, yes Christians can sin, get right with the Lord and reestablish communication with him. 1st John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Go forward and sin no more. If you are unsaved, Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Believe God's Word, believe the Book.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
